Cedar, Weeping Atlas

The Weeping Atlas Cedar usually ranges in height from 10 to 15 feet and in crown spread from 6 to 10 feet. The crown of the tree is an irregular weeping shaped that has moderate density. This trees grows in either part sun or in full sun and can tolerate clay, loam, sand, slightly alkaline and acidic well-drained soils (it prefers deep loam, on the acidic side). To help the tree reach its potential beauty, shelter it from strong winds. The tree needs to be planted where it will have plenty of room for the roots and branches to spread. Letting the roots spread will help it survive in during droughts and letting the branches spread will let the tree achieve its weeping shape.

The needle-like LEAVES are arranged in a spiral. They are simple with parallel venation. Normally the powdery blue colored leaves do not grow longer than 2”.

In the spring, inconspicuous, non showy FLOWERS bloom. The brown, dry and hard FRUIT is oval shaped cones that are generally 3-6” long.

The TRUNK will grow in any direction so training it to grow with a central leader will help to get the full FORM of the tree. If the trunk is allowed to grow freely then it can grow spiraled, horizontal or be freeform. The BRANCHES are weeping and twisted.
